ALSCOT AND THE ENVIRONMENT

It is our aim to achieve carbon neutral status by 2050.

As part of the Estate’s overall long-term strategic plan, we operate a policy to explore and implement sustainable practices across all in-house departments, by way of a contribution to the UK’s efforts to combat climate change.

Here at Alscot we continue to adopt and implement various environmental practises across al departments to assist positively with climate change, including; office digitalisation, hybrid working and we operate a fleet of hybrid vehicles.

Energy performance and compliance measures include LED lighting, solar panels, efficient boilers, effective insulation, rainwater harvesting and electric vehicle charging points.

Sustainable land management practises lead to improved soil structure, organic matter, cleaner air and flood mitigation. The natural grasslands encourage rare wildlife species and act as habitats. Planting trees and hegegrows capture carbon and provide shelter to livestock and act as corridors for wildlife.

See Woodlands & Forestry for more information and our planting portfolio.

The Alscot Biodiversity Project works to improve and enhance almost 50acres of natural grasslands and woodlands, creating wildlife corridors and encouraging rare and almost extinct species to thrive. Through careful management and investment over a min. 30 year term, we will increase the biodiversity value of the land, working through a process to restore existing meadows to neutral grasslands, assisted by the types and quantity of flora that is planted.

See Biodiversity and Education for more information.

Recognising the the importance of drainage for the good of the environment and future of the local community, the Estate’s Ditch Maintenance Program spanning circa 4,000 acres of land, is a huge and on-going undertaking.

Natural capital opportunities include land given over to solar energy.
